AOPA Hellas and the ICARUS 2008 Organizing Committee cordially invite you to participate in ICARUS 2008, the 1st International Aero Expo Athens to be hosted at Tatoi Airfield (LGTT), Athens, during the 24th IAOPA World Assembly 2008. Icarus Aero Expo Athens 2008 is the 1st International Business and General Aviation Exhibition in Southern Europe. The European South is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets because of excellent weather conditions, the recent EU enlargement and dynamically growing economies. The world of aviation now has an opportunity to introduce itself and explore the untapped potential of the region while paying a visit to Athens, at the crossroads between East and West, a bridge to the Middle East and the most important economic hub in Southeastern Mediterranean. As Phil Boyer, president of IAOPA, put it "come and visit the land of Icarus, where aviation was born".
The parallel events of the 24th IAOPA World Assembly and the 1st International Aero Expo Athens will be hosted at Tatoi Airfield which will accommodate the crowds and the aviation community gathering for the Air Show (demo flights) with the participation of civil and military aircraft, initiation flights for the public -sponsored by Air BP- seminars with keynote speakers including Phil Boyer, free access to the Hellenic Air Force Museum and to a unique private war bird collection within Tatoi airfield.
Tatoi airfield hosts most Athens aero clubs and their flight schools. It is located 15 km north of downtown Athens enjoying excellent highway and suburban railway connections. The airfield offers covered exhibition areas, 35,000m2 of apron, ample hard surface for static displays and can accommodate a vast number of private aircraft. The 5,800 ft asphalt runway is sufficient for up to business jet level aircraft. Waiver of landing and parking rights for all aircraft for 10 days (6-16 June 2008) and waiver of handling charges at all Greek airports during the month of June -sponsored by Olympic Airways Services- guarantee an even larger number of incoming aircraft.
The events of the 24th IAOPA World Assembly 2008 are being organized under the auspices of the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Tourism Development. Leading aviation companies such as Air BP, Olympic Airways and Aegean Airlines are sponsors of the IAOPA World Assembly. Given the recognition of IAOPA among the international General Aviation community, the organizational support of the Hellenic Air Force and the support of the Greek Government, Icarus 2008, the 1st International Aero Expo Athens is bound to be a resounding success with even more resounding benefits for the region’s aviation key players.
