CANSO welcomes Tunisia’s OACA as full member

November 10 2006, CANSO the global association of Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and industry partners today announced that Tunisia’s Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (OACA) has joined CANSO as a full member. OACA is a financially autonomous part of Tunisia’s Ministry of Transport and manages the Tunis ACC/FIR area covering some 227,000 km2 of Northern Africa and the Mediterranean and operates seven international airports.

“ANSPs are increasingly benefiting from new ways of ANS cooperation,” according to CANSO secretary general Alexander ter Kuile. “Africa has a long standing tradition of ANS cooperation which has already provided substantial benefits in terms of safety and efficiency. We hope that the addition of Tunisia will inspire others to follow its example, to strengthen ANSP cooperation within Africa, improve ANS performance in the areas of safety, efficiency and sustainability while widening the scope of CANSO’s representation and participation on the world stage.”

With OACA’s membership, there are now 45 ANSPs represented in CANSO.
