09/11/06: Delta to Recall More Flight Attendants

ATLANTA, Nov. 9, 2006 – Delta Air Lines today announced plans to recall an additional 1,000 flight attendants in 2007. This latest recall is scheduled to begin in January with as many as 500 previously furloughed flight attendants scheduled for training in the first few months of the year. “Our recalls will help ensure a smoother operation for our customers and our people as we build a more competitive network during what is the largest and most exciting international expansion in Delta’s history,” said Jim Whitehurst, Delta’s chief operating officer. Delta has added or announced more than 70 new international routes since fall 2005, with many of the routes beginning later this year and during 2007.

ZILINA, SLOVAKIA, NOVEMBER 1, 2006: Spranza Incorporated, a US Civil Aviation Security Training & Consulting firm with more than a quarter century of field instructional experience, has teamed with the Air Transport Department, University of Zilina Slovakia, to create the National Civil Aviation Security Training Center. Located on the Zilina campus, the Center will commence operation with the spring 2007 academic quarter.

21/09/06: Lufthansa invests in Frankfurt: construction of A380 hangar begins: Airbus A380 and new runway will create thousands of new jobs

Lufthansa is continuing to invest in Frankfurt and the surrounding Rhine-Main region. At today’s ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the A380 maintenance hangar, which was attended by the Minister of Economics, Transport and Regional Development of the State of Hesse, Dr. Alois Riehl, and the Mayor of Frankfurt, Petra Roth, the company underscored its role as the biggest employer in Hesse. “With the new runway and the stationing of our A380 fleet here in Frankfurt, we will create several thousand new jobs,” said Stefan Lauer, Lufthansa Executive Board member and Chief Officer Aviation Services and Human Resources. “Innovations form the foundation for our future and also for this location. The new maintenance hangar for the A380 is the visible proof,” he added. Professor Manfred Schölch, Vice Chairman of Fraport AG, the company that owns and operates the airport, commented: “We are delighted that this hangar for the A380 fleet has found its home here in Frankfurt.”

31/08/06: Embry-Riddle Expands Global Reach Through Worldwide Campus Growth

Daytona Beach, Fla., Aug. 31, 2006 - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has announced a major expansion and restructuring of its global educational activities through its Worldwide Campus, formerly known as the Extended Campus. The Worldwide Campus will continue to be headquartered in Daytona Beach in what will become the first building in a research park the university is developing adjacent to the Daytona Beach campus. The proposed $11 million, 50,000 sq. ft. building is scheduled for completion by January 2009.

Burbank, when the Space Shuttle Atlantis lifts off in early September. 09/08/06: Embry-Riddle Hands CAPT Program Off to Flight Training Services International

Daytona Beach, Fla., Aug. 9, 2006 — Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has sold its non-degree Commercial Airline Pilot Training (CAPT) program to Flight Training Services International (FTSI), a company whose president and CEO, Shawn Raker, is an alumnus of the university. Raker, who earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical studies from the university in 1990, has 16 years of experience as a pilot and proficiency check airman for a major airline in Atlanta.

08/08/06: Dr. John P. Johnson Named New President of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Daytona Beach, Fla., Aug. 8, 2006 – Dr. John P. Johnson has been selected by the Board of Trustees of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as the school’s fifth president, effective immediately. Dr. Johnson has served as the interim president of the university since November 2005 while also serving as the provost and chief academic officer, a position he held since joining Embry-Riddle in December 2003.

Oshkosh,Wis., July 27, 2006 – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University today announced an order for 29 new Garmin G1000-equipped 172 Skyhawks from Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company. “Cessnas are the most reliable platforms for teaching young people to fly because they are forgiving during flight training, easy to maintain and economical to operate,” said Chancellor of Embry-Riddle Thomas Connolly. “Now, since the technology exists to have Skyhawks with the Garmin G1000 avionics, training has become even more advanced. Daytona Beach, Fla., July 12, 2006 — Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has created two new divisions in its effort to reorganize functions and seek savings across the university. They are University Relations, headed by Ken Stackpoole, and Global Planning and Program Development, headed by John Metzner. Stackpoole, who was vice president of Government Relations for the past three years, has been named vice president of the University Relations division, which encompasses university-level public relations, brand and image marketing, government relations, and corporate relations.

02/05/06: Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel lays foundation stone for Trent engine overhaul facility in Germany

Construction has begun in Germany of a new jet engine overhaul facility, N3 Engine Overhaul Services, a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and Rolls-Royce plc. The ultra-modern facility, at Arnstadt in the Federal state of Thuringia, will have the country’s biggest engine test stand. At a ceremony today, Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and Thuringia’s Prime Minister Dieter Althaus emphasised the importance of this high-tech installation with 500 new jobs for the industrial future of Thuringia and Germany.

28/04/06: skyguide: Graduation of 18 new air traffic controllers

Geneva, 28 April 2006. At the end of April, 18 trainees successfully completed their three and a half year course of instruction and the new air traffic controllers were handed their licences at an award ceremony held on Castle Hünigen in Konolfingen. Interest in a career in air traffic control remains as high ever, with hundreds of applications being received every year. The Skyguide Training Center (STC) is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructures; it is now located at Zurich airport but will move this autumn to Wangen bei Dübendorf.

28/04/06: Sikorsky Aircraft Launches Nationwide Campaign for Engineering Talent

Sikorsky Aircraft today announced a nationwide campaign to recruit more than 300 engineers to meet growing demand for the company’s military and civil helicopter product lines and related services. Sikorsky Aircraft is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. Over the next few months, Sikorsky plans job fairs in several states to fill engineering positions at company and subsidiary facilities in Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Alabama, and New York. Sikorsky is on a path to double revenue between 2003-2008 and significantly increase aircraft deliveries across the company product lines over the same time period.

27/04/06: Lockheed Martin hosts nearly 200 Alabama students during Young Minds at Work Day

HUNTSVILLE and COURTLAND, Ala., April 27, 2006 — Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) today opened its doors in Huntsville and Courtland, Ala., to students, aged six to 18 years, for the company’s annual Young Minds at Work Day. 12/04/06: Top Business and Government Leaders to speak at Embry-Riddle Commencement

Daytona Beach, Fla., April 12, 2006 – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will hold three commencement ceremonies in May on its Daytona Beach Campus, with 534 students from that campus graduating in two ceremonies and 273 students from the Extended Campus graduating in another ceremony. All three events will be held in the school’s ICI Center at 600 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. Graduates of the Daytona Beach Campus will attend commencement exercises on Saturday, May 6. Students in the College of Aviation will graduate at 9 a.m. The guest speaker is Barbara Barrett, president of Triple Creek Guest Ranch and chair of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy. She will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (L.H.D.) for her contributions to humanity and human welfare.

12/04/06: Embry-Riddle Senior Project Wins ASEE-SE Design Competition

Daytona Beach, Fla., April 12, 2006 — A team of 20 Computer and Software Engineering students from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University recently took first place in the Junior/Senior design category of the ASEE-SE conference competition with an autonomous national airspace system that controls aircraft movement between airports. Embry-Riddle’s team of undergraduate students and 20 other teams representing 13 other colleges competed in four categories at the American Society of Engineering Education Southeastern Section annual meeting and conference held April 2-4 at the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa.
