20/08/06: Airline Ambassoadors’ mission to Vietnam

In early March, a phenomenal group of eight volunteers from Airline Ambassadors International came together in Vietnam. Our mission was to assist in projects for children with the charitable group, MAPS (Maine Adoption Placement Service). Each armed with 2 fifty pound bags of donated aid, our team had a list of projects, interests, and activities to immerse ourselves.

17/08/06: Gulf air dispatches more humanitairan relief to Lebanon

Gulf Air has flown in another 10 tonnes of relief material as part of its humanitarian relief efforts to the Lebanese people. The cargo left aboard Gulf Air’s scheduled services to Damascus, Syria today for onward dispatch to Lebanon. Lebanese Ambassador to Bahrain Mohammed al-Hijar, General Secretary of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society Sadiq Al Shehabi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Social Development Hannan Kamal and other government officials were present at the Bahrain International Airport to witness the dispatch.

01/08/06: Canadian Airforce: Injured Fisherman Flown to Victoria by Cormorant Crew

The Ocean Provider, a Canadian fishing boat, requested a medical evacuation of one of her crew members on Tuesday, Aug 1, from approximately 70 nm southeast of Tofino. One of the crewmembers had injured his hand over the weekend and the condition had become much worse, prompting the call to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria. The JRCC in response launched a Cormorant helicopter from 442 Squadron in Comox.

31/07/06: Two Missing Boaters Located Safely on Shore

Two men boating in a 14-foot aluminum boat in Rennell Sound, off the West Coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands, were reported overdue to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Victoria late Sunday night, 30 Jul. In addition to being overdue, one of the men had an existing medical condition and did not have his medication with him. The JRCC launched Air Force and Coast Guard assets in response.

27/07/06: Royal Air Force: Bravery Award for 7/7 rescuer

An RAF Medical Support Officer who provided emergency medical care to those injured during the terrorist attacks on London of 7 July 2005 has today been awarded the Royal Humane Society bronze medal for bravery. Wing Commander Craig Staniforth, from Chippenham in Wiltshire, was travelling on a tube train approaching Edgware Road when a bomb exploded on the train travelling in the opposite direction.

19/07/06: ASI Evacuates Clients Stationed in Dangerous Areas of Lebanon: More than 100 People Relocated to Safe Havens

HOUSTON, TEXAS - July 18, 2006 - ASI, LP, a leading provider of intelligence and security services, evacuated more than 100 people from dangerous areas in Lebanon since the first attacks by Hamas and Hizballah against Israel took place on July 12, 2006. ASI immediately moved some clients out of the country, while others were relocated to safe havens in northern Lebanon. “All of our clients have been accounted for and are safe,” said Charlie LeBlanc, ASI’s vice president of operations. “In deciding how and where we would evacuate clients, we chose the option with the lowest possible risk.”

18/07/06: Cormorant Crew Perform Medical Evacuation for Injured Fisherman

A 62 year-old-male had an abrupt end to his visit at Silco Lodge on Minstrel Island when he fell approximately seven metres down a stairwell on Monday evening, 17 Jul. The camp cook, who is trained in first aid, called to have the injured man taken to a hospital early in the morning, 18 Jul. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria received the call and in response launched a Cormorant helicopter from 442 Squadron at 19 Wing Comox. The JRCC tasked the Cormorant, as it was the only asset capable of quickly getting into the remote site, which is approximately 35 kms from Telegraph Cove, off the east coast of Vancouver Island.

15/07/06: Canadian Airforces’ 442 Squadron Rescues Man off Mountain

A mountaineering course on Vancouver Island took a turn for the worse for a 19-year-old male from Vermont on Saturday afternoon, July 15. The group, hiking near Knight Inlet, had to call for help when the young man began having great difficulty breathing and was going in and out of consciousness. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria received the call and immediately launched a Buffalo aircraft and Cormorant helicopter from 19 Wing Comox. The Buffalo crew, already in the air on a search mission, was retasked to the area at the foot of Mount Waddington, where they found the site easily.

05/07/06: Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Roudebush details interdependency at San Antonio joint dining-in

SAN ANTONIO — The Sky Room at the University of Incarnate Word was the setting for more than 700 Airmen and Soldiers as Wilford Hall Medical Center Airmen and Brooke Army Medical Center Soldiers hosted their first joint dining-in June 16. “We have much to celebrate and this is great way to do just that,” said Maj. Gen.(Dr.) James G. Roudebush, Air Force deputy surgeon general. Roudebush was the keynote speaker for the event that marked a first in Wilford Hall Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center history. He addressed many concerns that are now facing the two medical communities including the topic of a future unified medical command.

02/07/06: Cormorant Crew Plucks Man from Rapids

A 31-year-old male is safe after spending over an hour and a half stuck in the Stamp River rapids near Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. He was unable to get to shore safely and had to be hoisted out to ensure he would not be swept into extreme rapids. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Victoria received the call for assistance and immediately launched a Cormorant crew from 19 Wing Comox.

30/06/06: Air Force Medical Service announces 59th MDW urologist wins first place award

LACKLAND AFB, TEXAS — Urologist Maj. (Dr.) Kyle Weld received first place recognition for best urologist-in-training scientific paper at the national meeting of the American Urologic Association in Atlanta May 23, an event attended by more than 10,000 international participants. Dr. Weld is now the Urology Department assistant chief of staff at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. His award winning article, “Extrarenal Vascular Anatomy of Kidney: Assessment of Variations and their Relevance to Partial Nephrectomy,” was written while he was a fellow (doctor in training) at Washington University in St. Louis, and was published in “Urology, the Gold Journal.”

30/06/06: Hurricane season: AF ready to implement disaster teams, SG says

ARLINGTON, Va. — By the end of June, the Air Force will have a self-sufficient team of medical and support specialists ready to help in natural disasters, according to Air Force Lt. Gen. George (Dr.) Peach Taylor Jr., Air Force surgeon general. The 224-airman teams will be equipped with the skills and material to set up a 25-bed hospital, complete with its own water, power and mortuary. In addition to 91 medical experts, there will be 133 experts in everything from vehicle maintenance to security, Taylor told reporters during a Thursday interview at the Pentagon. Each team will have the resources to handle basic medical care for 5,000 to 6,500 people.

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — The Air Force and Army have taken a monumental step forward in the implementation of joint healthcare delivery in the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) that includes Ramstein AB and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Army Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Carla Hawley-Bowland, commander of the Europe Regional Medical Command, and Air Force Col. (Dr.) Mark Ediger, US Air Forces in Europe command surgeon signed the KMC Joint Healthcare Shared Vision statement June 2.

25/06/06: Ole Miss, AF sign agreement to maintain medical residencies at Keesler Medical Center

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. — The University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Air Force Medical Service signed a landmark agreement in the office of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour June 16 to maintain medical residency programs at the Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi. The Air Force was represented by the Surgeon General of the Air Force Lt. Gen. (Dr.) George Peach Taylor Jr., the Medical Center was represented by Dr. Dan Jones, vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine.

24/06/06: Cormorant Helicopter Medevacs Patient from Cruise Ship

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria launched a Cormorant from 19 Wing in response to a request from the cruise ship Mercury. A 37-year-old American woman was suffering from severe abdominal pains and required higher medical care, which prompted the ship’s physician to call for a medical evacuation (Medevac). The Mercury, a Celebrity Cruiselines ship, had left Seattle and was enroute to Juno, Alaska. The Cormorant crew and 19 Wing air medevac team flew to the ship, which was 25 nm west of Port Hardy. The Coast Guard primary ship Tanu, which was on search and rescue patrol in the area, also proceeded to the scene to provide surface support for the Cormorant should the need arise.

19/06/06: Nova Scotia fishermen rescued by Greenwood SAR crew

14 WING GREENWOOD – Two Nova Scotia fishermen returned home safely to their families on Sunday, June 4 after being rescued by searchers from 413 Squadron. The men were fishing on the Bras D’Or Lakes Saturday evening when their boat caught fire, causing them to abandon ship. The men climbed into a life raft, used a cell phone to call for help, and then spent a cold and scary night waiting for rescuers to arrive. Low cloud ceilings, poor visibility, high winds and fog challenged Captain Jacques Poirier and his crew as they headed out to find the missing duo.

SAN ANTONIO — The Dean of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, Col. Theodore Parsons, honored 266 physicians and allied health providers during the 2006 SAUSHEC award and graduation ceremony held June 9 at the University of Texas Health Science Center auditorium. The ceremony marked the culmination of years of post-graduate training for Air Force, Army and civilian practitioners and was attended by more than 840 people.

06/06/06: Surviving Vietnam War steered doctor to save lives

SOUTHWEST ASIA — He was only 6 years old when he saw a dead Soldier lying in the street holding a rifle up in the air. He couldn’t tell whether the man was American or Vietnamese because the body was burned. “During the Tet Offensive of 1968, our house was damaged from explosives,” said Lt. Col. (Dr.) Paul Doan of the 379th Expeditionary Medical Group. “We had to move to the central highlands, where the Viet Cong and the Vietnamese army had been battling for days, leaving many to die on the streets.”

Montreal, April 28, 2006 – (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) – CAE recently presented a donation of C$423,000 to Centraide of Greater Montreal, concluding the 2005 CAE-Centraide Campaign.
