The De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter is one of the most versitile aircraft ever designed. Still Canada’s most successful commercial aircraft program with more than 800 built, the Twin Otter remains popular for its rugged construction and useful STOL performance. The De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter (aka Twotter) is one of those aircraft that should have been replaced by some new aircraft at least a decade ago. But it’s not. The DHC-6 still flies and in fact the amount of registered is risen at this moment. The main reason for it is the fact it is just as much at home at the poles as it is in the tropics. It is used to maintain routes to airports up to 9000 feet and to ferry between islands. It will fly everywhere using wheels, floats or skis. It’s a legend.

Called the ‘Fork Tailed Devil’ in the Far East, the P38 Lightning was a sight to strike fear into an enemy’s heart. First flown in 1938, the design focus was on speed and agility and the type went on to perform in many theatres in WWII; it was used in fighter, attack and even high-altitude PR (Photo Reconnaissance) roles.. The warbird experts at Aeroplane Heaven have spent countless hours developing this iconic aircraft for use in Flight Simulator. With a superb user-friendly Virtual Cockpit, it was decided not to model the ‘traditional’ 2D instrument panel. The Autobrake system controls the deceleration in dependence of different conditions during the braking phase for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and 2004. The touchdown and the braking stage is the most complex operation in any flight, seen from a dynamics point of view. From a flying object, the aircraft now is a rolling vehicle but still has a lot of lift. It also needs to slow down enough to exit the runway in a neat fashion. For a large airliner loaded with people and cargo this is an extremely difficult task that is handled by complex systems. It also covers many pages in the flight manual where tables tell the pilot if the runway is long enough. Get it wrong and things get very exciting.

The Do-27 celebrated its 50th birthday just a few weeks ago, and even today it fascinates thousands of enthusiasts around the world. This addon for Microsoft Flight Simulator is leaving known paths and is quite different to the other add-on aircraft you might have experienced. Besides the extraordinary visual model this add-on is equipped with features that have never seen before in FS! Today, flight simulation pilots can be divided in two groups. The first group is trying to simulate flights so that it is as real as it gets, and other uses fly for recreational purposes and mostly do short flights in their spare time.
