EUROCONTROL Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MAS UAC)     Updated
The Maastricht UAC is responsible for air traffic control in the upper airspace of the Benelux and the north-west of Germany.

In order to ensure optimal civil and military co-operation, a Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) unit, controlling military air traffic over North-West Germany, is co-located with the civil facilities.

To cope with complex patterns of air traffic demand and airspace architecture, the Centre is organized on a European, rather than a national, basis.

In operation since 1972, this avant-garde four-State regional cooperation project is the first example of functional airspace consolidation in Europe, taking due account of operational requirements and major traffic flows rather than State boundaries.

One important mission of the Maastricht Centre is to pave the way for innovative safety, capacity and efficiency-enhancing programmes by conducting pre-operational trials of new operational concepts and technologies.
