SWISS: 10 000 Swiss francs raised for Theodora and ROTE NASEN charities

SWISS has donated CHF 10 000 to the Theodora and ROTE NASEN charities. The funds were raised (and rounded up by SWISS) from the two alpine sightseeing flights which the airline offered as part of EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg’s 60th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, October 28. The donation was presented to the charities at SWISS head office in Basel today.  Visitors to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg’s 60th birthday party on Saturday, October 28 also had the chance to support the Theodora and ROTE NASEN charities. For a donation of CHF 50, they could book a seat on a SWISS sightseeing flight around the Alps. The amount raised was generously rounded up by SWISS to CHF 10 000. Ruedi Schumacher, SWISS Vice President Sales Switzerland, presented each charity with a cheque for CHF 5 000 at SWISS head office in Basel this morning.

 
"It costs us CHF 20 to send a clown to visit a child," said André-Simon Hofer of the Theodora foundation. "So with CHF 5 000, we can bring a lot of smiles to a lot of faces." The ROTE NASEN association was equally appreciative. "We’d like to say a very big thank-you to all the people who took these flights and to SWISS," said Klaus-Peter Wick on the association’s behalf. "These funds will enable us to organise a huge number of visits for our clowns."
 
Helping with hospital stays
The Theodora foundation has been helping to alleviate the suffering of children in hospitals or special homes by bringing laughter into their stays since it was founded in 1993. It does so by organising "dream doctors" to visit the children each week. Over 130 dream doctors are currently active in nine countries around the world. The artists, who are trained by the Theodora foundation, visit 94 hospitals a week and more than 220 000 young patients a year.
 
The ROTE NASEN association is also devoted to brightening up the lives of sick people who may be feeling down or lonely during their hospital stays. In addition, the association’s "clowndoctors" help allay any fears that children may have about going to hospital, and teach youngsters about illness and how to prevent it in a light and cheerful way.
