SEATTLE, June 25, 2008 — Shanghai Airlines Vice President Xiaowen Liu (far left) looks on as some of his staff assist The Boeing Company?s employees as they load 2,400 pounds of cone masks into the cargo hold of the airline?s newly delivered 737-800 on June 13. The masks will be used by earthquake relief workers in China as they begin to rebuild some of the hardest hit areas damaged by the earthquake. The event marked Boeing?s third Flight of Hope — a collaborative relief flight program between Boeing, its airline customers and nonprofit organizations to provide humanitarian aid around the world by filling the empty cargo spaces of newly delivered airplanes with relief materials.
The 300 cases of cone mask were donated by the Tacoma, Wash.-based Washington-Sichuan Friendship Association and will be distributed, once delivered, in needed areas by the Sichuan Charity Federation.
