Sikorsky Aircraft announced today that it has selected CDI-Aerospace, a division of CDI Corporation, to open and operate a third Engineering Design Center in the U.S., this one in Bozeman, Mont. The Design Center will support Sikorsky’s aftermarket, commercial, and U.S. and international government business. Sikorsky Aircraft, based in Stratford, Conn., is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX). CDI Corporation (NYSE:CDI), based in Philadelphia, has roughly 18,500 employees and revenues of approximately $1.2 billion.
"CDI is an experienced provider of engineering services with demonstrated success at many major corporations, including United Technologies Corporation," said Mark Miller, Sikorsky Vice President of Research and Engineering. "We are confident the selection of CDI will lead to a first-rate Engineering Design Center that will allow Sikorsky to continue to provide best value to our customers."
Engineers at the Design Center will perform targeted airframe and subsystem detail design activities to support anticipated growth of several Sikorsky military and commercial programs and related aftermarket services. Operations at the new Design Center are scheduled to begin in July with approximately 20 CDI engineers, growing to 40 or more by year end if warranted by business conditions.
The Bozeman Design Center will be the third such facility opened on behalf of Sikorsky. In 2005, two engineering service providers opened similar Design Centers in Lexington, Ky. and West Lafayette, Ind. Placing targeted airframe and subsystems detail design work in off-site Design Centers is a key element of the workforce strategy, allowing Sikorsky engineering personnel and resources to concentrate on systems integration, vehicle definition, technology development, and dynamic systems activities in its facilities in Connecticut, Florida and Alabama.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is a world leader in helicopter design, manufacturing, and service. United Technologies Corp., based in Hartford, Conn., provides a broad range of high-technology products and support services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
