Kingfisher Airlines takes delivery of its first ATR 72-500 aircraft

Kingfisher Airlines, India’s fastest growing airline today took delivery of its first ATR 72-500 aircraft. This aircraft is the first to be delivered following the signature of a contract for twenty new ATR 72-500s unveiled in November 2005. The initial order was subsequently increased in February 2006 when Kingfisher Airlines exercised options for 15 additional ATR 72-500. To date, Kingfisher Airlines has ordered 35 new ATR 72-500 and has 20 more options.

The delivery ceremony took place in Toulouse with Dr. Vijay Mallya, Chairman and Managing Director of Kingfisher Airlines and Filippo Bagnato, Chief Executive Officer of ATR.

Dr. Vijay Mallya stated: “These aircraft will allow us to develop our network and introduce new routes not previously served and we are excited to be bringing the Kingfisher Airlines experience to more cities throughout India. We are also excited to induct this Aircraft into our ever expanding fleet”

“I’m very proud to see that ATR aircraft under the livery of Kingfisher Airlines, will take part in the development of new commercial routes in India”, said Filippo Bagnato. This delivery is a new step forward into the confirmation of the ATR aircraft as the optimal choice according to the characteristics of the Indian domestic flights.”.

The ATR 72-500 represents the new generation of turboprop aircraft and offers the highest standards of passenger comfort with the widest cabin in their class. Equipped with the new “Elegance” cabin, the aircraft is delivered with the newest technological innovations in the field of communications and navigation aid tools and IFE (in-flight entertainment).

Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has sold 793 aircrafts (398 ATR 42s and 395 ATR 72s) and delivered 691 aircraft (383 ATR 42-500 and 308 ATR 72-500).
