Kansas City Hosts Bombardier Safety Standdown 2008

Bombardier’s industry leading safety seminar will boast exceptional knowledge-based training, as in previous years, but in a new location: The Hyatt Regency Crown Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Held annually in Wichita, Kansas for the past 11 years, Safety Standdown 2008 will open the doors on its 12th edition to up to 600 attendees in Kansas City from October 20-23, 2008.


The free seminar offers three full days of lectures and one day of practical workshops.

New topics and speakers featured on this year’s agenda include: Mr. John J. Nance, Author and ABC News Aerospace Analyst, on aviation safety; Dr. Mica Endsley, SA Technologies on situational awareness; Mr. Paul Bowen, Paul Bowen Photography on safe photo missions; and Mr. Clay Lacy, Clay Lacy Aviation on airmanship in a high-tech world. The event will also feature a new workshop on Airborne Weather Radar - Tactics techniques & limitations.

“Safety Standdown is keeping pace with the rapid changes of the aviation industry,” said James Hoblyn, president, Bombardier customer services and specialized and amphibious aircaft. “The growth of the program reflects the growth of industry as a whole, and the consequent necessity for effective and accessible safety training for all operators. With the help and support of our industry and government partners, Bombardier aims to bring the most current, and most pertinent information to the aviation community, in both the U.S. and internationally, year after year.”

Safety Standdown and Safety Standown Europe are organized annually in partnership with the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). They are offered free of charge to all aircraft operators regardless of the type of aircraft they fly.

As in years past special guests and presenters include : Captain Gene Cernan, United States Navy (ret.) Commander Apollo 17, Mr. Nick Sabatini, Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety, FAA, General Mark Rosenker (ret.), United States Airforce Reserve, Chairman NTSB, and Mr.Ed Bolen, President and CEO, NBAA. The banquet dinner will feature a presentation by General Joe Engle, United States Air Force (ret.) X-15 Pilot and NASA Astronaut.
