São José dos Campos, September 22, 2008 – Embraer holds the eighth edition of its Maintenance Cost Workshop (MCW), in São José dos Campos, Brazil, September 22 to 26. This annual meeting works to reduce maintenance costs, through an exchange of experiences among operators, suppliers, service centers, and Embraer. The event will be dedicated to the ERJ 145 and E-Jets commercial aviation programs. “We expect to receive many operators of the ERJ 145 and E-Jets families,” said Acir Padilha, Embraer Vice President, Customer Support – Airline Market. “The MCW is a unique opportunity for our customers, Embraer and partners to share and learn good maintenance practices, enrich their knowledge, and apply it in the different operational conditions faced by each airline.”
Welcome Day opens the event, on September 22, which will run through the 24 for customers of the ERJ 145 family, under the main theme “Maintenance Benchmark”. The ERJ 145 family has been in service for 12 years, with over 1,000 presently flying worldwide, and more than 14 million of operating hours. Participants will share valuable operating experiences during a program through presentations and roundtable discussions on a variety of subjects, including processes, maintenance plans, fuel consumption, achieving lean results and troubleshooting, among others.
Operators of the EMBRAER 170/190 E-Jets family will have Welcome Day on September 24, and their main theme of “Increasing Flight Availability” will be in focus until the 26. The availability issue will be discussed during similar sessions as those for the ERJ 145 family, dealing with procedures, tools, tips and best practices, in order to minimize waste and increase the productivity of E-Jets maintenance processes. On June 30, 2008, the E-Jets had logged 847 firm orders and 827 options. Today, orders have come from more than 50 customers in 30 countries, worldwide, and over 400 aircraft in operation have surpassed 1.5 million flight hours.
Previous MCW editions have dealt with such customer-centered subjects as heavy maintenance, component repair and overhaul, handling maintenance and cost reductions, and managing aircraft reliability. This year’s edition is attended by 22 Embraer customers: Azul, and Trip (Brazil); Air Canada (Canada); AeroRepublica (Colombia); Finnair (Finland); Régional (France); Lufthansa (Germany); JAL (Japan); Kenya Airways (Kenya); Luxair (Luxembourg); Aeroméxico (Mexico); Montenegro Airlines (Montenegro); KLM Cityhopper (Netherlands); Copa Airlines (Panama); Portugalia (Portugal); Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudi Arabia); Airlink, (South Africa); FlyBe (UK); American Eagle, ExpressJet, GECAS, and JetBlue (USA).
