Fans of The King are transporting themselves back in time to the 1950s and 60s at Changi Airport as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) commemorates the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. Elvis Week @ Changi, filled with exciting performances and activities for passengers, is taking place from 13 to 19 August 2007 at the airport. As part of the festivities, famous Elvis impersonator, Johnny Baron, relives the greatest rock ‘n’ roll legend ever by performing nightly at Terminal 1’s Departure / Transit Mall. Singing and dancing the greatest hits of Elvis, Johnny mesmerised the audience with his performances. Passengers who would like to bring a part of history back with them can try their luck at a daily quiz where winners stand to win an Elvis t-shirt.
Another highlight of Elvis Week @ Changi is an exhibition showcasing Elvis memorabilia, such as a 22-carat gold coin watch given to Elvis by Liberace in 1972, a letter Elvis wrote to a friend and one of Elvis’ costumes. Other activities during Elvis Week @ Changi include the special screening of some of Elvis’ best-known movies and performances by a local band, New Vintage.
To wrap it all, the finals of an Elvis impersonation contest will be held on 19 August at the Departure / Transit Mall of Changi Airport’s Terminal 1. The finals will see Elvis wannabes dress, sing and dance like The King. Top winners of the contest will walk away with attractive prizes such as a pair of tickets to Elvis’ Memphis hometown and a 20-inch Phillips LCD TV.
