27/09/07: EUROCONTROL accepts the SESAR ATM Target Concept

Brussels, Belgium – EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, today accepted the SESAR ATM Target Concept, the fundamental contribution for guiding the development of the European ATM system as part of the SESAR programme. The ATM Target Concept describes the future European ATM concept of operations for 2020 and beyond, and the supporting architecture and technologies. It provides a first assessment of the expected ability to meet the performance targets identified in the previous work of SESAR and of the cost and benefit aspects.

27/09/07: Munich Airport and Fraport to test emission-based landing fees: German Air Transport Initiative aims to send strong signal to environmental policymakers

Munich and Frankfurt airports have announced plans to introduce an emission-linked component in take-off and landing fees for a three-year test phase. The pilot project was developed by the German Airport Transport Initiative in consultation with the Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs, and will introduce a charge of 3 euros per kilogram of nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions for all airlines landing in Frankfurt and Munich effective January 1, 2008.

Wichita, KS—Yingling Aviation, which installs the popular “Oasis” interiors in Cessna Aircraft Company’s Caravan single engine turboprops, has unveiled new, restyled cabin treatments for 2008. Despite the addition of a number of new standard features, the restyled version of the Caravan Oasis interior is available with no increase in price. 27/09/07: CAE awarded contracts for three full-flight simulators and training devices valued at C$50 million: Alteon Training orders Boeing 747-8 FFS - Virgin Blue orders Boeing 777-300ER FFS - Lion Air orders Boeing 737-900ER FFS

MONTREAL, Sept. 27 /CNW Telbec/ - (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) - CAE has signed contracts to design and manufacture three full-flight simulators (FFSs) and associated CAE Simfinity(R) training devices valued at approximately C$50 million at list prices. This brings the total FFS sales that CAE has announced in fiscal 2008 to 21. CAE won a contract to design and manufacture a CAE 7000 Series Boeing 747-8 full-flight simulator (FFS) for Alteon Training, a subsidiary of the Boeing Company. In addition to the Boeing 747-8 FFS, Alteon ordered a suite of CAE Simfinity ground school training devices for the new Boeing 747-8 aircraft, including a CAE Simfinity integrated procedures trainer (IPT) and 36 virtual maintenance trainers (VMTs). The Boeing 747-8 FFS, which will also be convertible to a Boeing 747-400 FFS, and associated training devices will be delivered to Alteon in the fall of 2009.

British Airways will buy 12 Airbus A380 aircraft as part of the airlines’ long term fleet modernisation. The announcement marks the first time British Airways has selected to introduce Airbus aircraft for the company’s long haul fleet. The decision vindicates Airbus’ product strategy. The A380 is a key part of the solution for sustainable growth and eco efficiency in air transportation. The aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce engines. “The Airbus A380 will provide a great solution for our high density markets and get the most out of scarce London Heathrow slots. We said that environmental considerations would feature highly in our choice and our decision to buy these aircraft is consistent with this”, said Willie Walsh, British Airways Chief Executive.

27/09/07: AeroVironment Awarded Contract for Development of Global Observer Stratospheric Unmanned Aircraft System: Program Funds Development of New Class of Unmanned Aircraft System for Affordable Persistence in the Stratosphere

MONROVIA, Calif., Sept. 26, 2007 – AeroVironment, Inc. (AV) (NASDAQ:AVAV), a leader in unmanned aircraft systems and efficient electric energy systems, today announced that it has received a contract from the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for the development and military utility assessment of its Global Observer unmanned aircraft system (UAS). This contract initiates a Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstration, or JCTD. The JCTD is sponsored by multiple U.S. government organizations. The contract calls for the development of up to three Global Observer aircraft over the next three years to demonstrate the ability to operate in the stratosphere for up to 7 days without landing. The basic contract, which will be funded under a cost-plus fixed-fee arrangement, provides for the development and delivery of the initial Global Observer aircraft, and is valued at approximately $57 million. The contract also includes options for the development and delivery of up to two additional Global Observer aircraft, resulting in a potential contract value of $108 million.

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 27, 2007 — A key partnership between The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and the U.S. Navy was honored Wednesday at the Third Annual Secretary of Defense Performance-Based Logistics Awards in Washington, D.C. The F/A-18 Integrated Readiness Support Teaming (FIRST) program received the system-level award for excellence in the field of performance-based logistics. Naval Air Systems Command and Naval Inventory Control Point in Philadelphia also were honored as part of the industry/government partnership. September 27, 2007 - CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA’s Dawn spacecraft began its 3 billion kilometer (1.7 billion mile) journey through the inner solar system to study a pair of asteroids Thursday at 7:34 a.m. Eastern Time (4:34 a.m. Pacific Time). The Delta 2 rocket, fitted with nine strap-on solid-fuel boosters, safely climbed away from the Florida coastline and launch complex 17B at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. “We have our time machine up and flying,” said Dawn Principal Investigator Christopher Russell of the University of California, Los Angeles.

27/09/07: NASA’S Dawn Spacecraft Enroute to Shed Light on Asteroid Belt

September 27, 2007 - CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA’s Dawn spacecraft is on its way to study a pair of asteroids after lifting off Thursday from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 7:34 a.m. EDT (4:34 a.m. PDT). Mission controllers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., received telemetry on schedule at 9:44 a.m. EDT (6:44 a.m. PDT) indicating Dawn had achieved proper orientation in space and its massive solar array was generating power from the sun. “Dawn has risen, and the spacecraft is healthy,” said the mission’s project manager Keyur Patel of JPL. “About this time tomorrow [Friday morning], we will have passed the moon’s orbit.” During the next 80 days, spacecraft controllers will test and calibrate the myriad of spacecraft systems and subsystems, ensuring Dawn is ready for the long journey ahead.

NBAA, Atlanta, GA, USA, 25 September 2007 – Avionics display specialist Barco has received ETSO-C113 authorization for the 10” Primary Flight Displays used in Honeywell’s Primus Apex™ integrated flight deck. The certification recognizes that the displays, marketed by Honeywell as KDU-1080, have successfully met EASA’s (European Aviation Safety Agency) standards for airworthiness. 26/09/07: Latest news from the oneworld airline alliance

Kathmandu, Genoa, Santa Fe and Shanghai Hongqiao join network: Four new destinations and one new country are being added to the worldwide network served by oneworld member airlines, which already covers almost 700 airports in 150 territories. The new county is Nepal, with Dragonair - which joins oneworld on 1 November - launching services between its Hong Kong home and Nepal’s capital Kathmandu from 2 December with an initial four Airbus A320s a week. Also in Asia, Japan Airlines is putting a second Shanghai airport on the oneworld map, with the inauguration of daily flights to Hongqiao from the airline’s Tokyo Haneda hub from 29 September, by Boeing 767s initially and then Boeing 747-400s from late October. It will maintain its existing four daily round trips between Shanghai Pudong and Tokyo Narita. The new route will provide greater customer convenience, with both airports closer to their city centers than the established gateways.

26/09/07: Cessna Takes 30-Citation X Order from XOJET

Atlanta, Sept. 24, 2007 - Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today at the opening of the National Business Aviation Association annual meeting it has an order from XOJET for 30 Citation X business jets with a retail value of more than $600 million. XOJET is one of the largest Citation X operators in the world. Today the XOJET’s fleet consists of 12 Citations Xs which will increase to 17 aircraft by the end of this year. The first aircraft from the new order will deliver in Q1 2008. Deliveries are scheduled to continue through Q4 2010 by which time XOJET will have 47 Citation X in their fleet.

26/09/07: Rolls-Royce celebrates Citation X Delivery – Marking 5,000 Cessna Citation Aircraft

26 September 2007 - Rolls-Royce and Cessna Aircraft today celebrated the delivery of the 5000th Citation business jet in a ceremony at the National Business Aviation Association Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. This milestone delivery was of an AE 3007 powered Citation X. The Citation X, the fastest business jet in operation, is powered by the Rolls-Royce AE 3007C engine. With 6442lb-thrust, this engine allows the aircraft to cruise at Mach 0.92 or approximately 600 miles per hour. Last year, Rolls-Royce and Cessna celebrated 10 years of the Citation X program. The AE 3007C engine has surpassed two million engine flying hours on the more than 250 Citation X aircraft in service.

Brussels Airport, 24 September 2007 – During the summer months, the airport recorded record figures. July was the busiest month in the history of Brussels Airport in numbers of arriving and departing passengers. This summer also brought the busiest August month ever. During July and August 3,7 million passengers used the airport, a rise of 7% on the summer of 2006. Freight, too, did exceptionally well, recording growth of 7% in the first 8 months of this year. Brucargo has thus strengthened its position as the sixth freight airport in Europe.

26/09/07: CAE’s Burgess Hill Training Centre receives FAA Part 142 certification

NBAA, Atlanta, GA, September 26, 2007 – (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) – CAE’s Burgess Hill UK Flight Training centre has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Part 142 training. The approval enables the centre to conduct FAA-approved training, testing and certification for type ratings on the Falcon 7X, Falcon 900EX EASy and the Falcon 2000EX EASy. The first clients in the Falcon 7X initial pilot training class have received their type ratings under FAA approval. Technical training has been underway at the centre since February.
