12/07/07: Diamond Aircraft: New engine for General Aviation

In collaboration with Austro Engine GmbH and Diamond Aircraft Industries, whom both have their Headquarters in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, Mercedes Benz Technology (MB-Tech) in Germany and other distinguished partners, a 170 HP Turbo Diesel Engine with a maximum torque of 570Nm has made its initial test flight in a DA40 Diamond Star. Christian Dries, CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries and Sören Pedersen, Managing Test Pilot at DAI carried out the maiden flight together. They were both enthralled. The engine showed high performance while also being economical. Through consequential implementation of MB Tech developed combustion technology, in comparison to ‘normal’ engines, we succeeded in lowering the overall fuel consumption, employing identical performance, by 20%. These results make this engine a very attractive option for unmanned aircraft (UAVs).

12/07/07: EUROCONTROL Permanent Commission appoints David McMillan as new Director General from 2008

Brussels, Belgium – The EUROCONTROL Permanent Commission has appointed Mr David McMillan as Director General of EUROCONTROL with effect from 1 January 2008. Mr McMillan is currently Director General of Civil Aviation in the United Kingdom. During his career, he has held a range of posts in the Department of Transport of the UK, including as Director of Strategy and Delivery and Director of Rail Restructuring.

12/07/07: Eurofighter Typhoon Delivered To Five Nations

Hallbergmoos – The first Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, AS001, was delivered today to Austria. The aircraft piloted by EADS Military Air Systems Test Pilot Martin Angerer had successfully deployed to its new home base at Zeltweg, Austria. Aloysius Rauen, CEO Eurofighter GmbH, commented: “The Eurofighter consortium is extremely pleased at having delivered the first of 15 aircraft for Austria and is looking forward to delivering according to schedule over the next two years. The consortium is convinced that the Austrian Air Force now has the best equipment available worldwide to safeguard the Nation’s airspace. Air Forces in five Nations now operate the Eurofighter Typhoon, confirming the Market Leader position of the Eurofighter programme.”

12/07/07: Airbus delivers last A300 to Fedex

The last A300 to leave the Airbus Final Assembly Line, an A300 Freighter, was delivered to FedEx on 12th of July 2007. Over the life of the programme a total of 821 A300/A310 have been ordered and to date there are more than 630 A300s and A310s in service with about 80 operators. Airbus’ long-term fleet support programme will continue to enable their operation until the very last aircraft is retired from service, with half of the current fleet expected still to be in service beyond 2025. With more than 120 A300s and A310s aircraft currently in service, FedEx is a long-standing operator and the largest customer for these aircraft types.

12/07/07: Iberia takes delivery of new Airbus A-319: Iberia promotes awareness of the need to protect rich native biodiversity at all the destinations to which it flies

Madrid, July 12th, 2007 - Iberia has taken delivery of a new, 141-seat A-319. The aircraft has been registered as EC-KEV, and christened the “Otter” in line with new its policy of naming aircraft for protected Spanish species, which took effect at the beginning of this year. It is the sixth aircraft to join the Iberia fleet in 2007, all of them belonging to the Airbus A-320 family, and all bearing the name and picture of an endangered Spanish species, including the Águila Imperial Ibérica (Iberian imperial eagle), the Lince Ibérico (Iberian lynx), the Oso pardo (brown bear), and the Cigüeña Negra (black stork) and the Urogallo (Spanish capercaillie)

12/07/07: EUROPE Airport Traffic Report ACI EUROPE

Brussels, 13 July 2007: Passenger traffic at European airports increased by +4% in May 2007 compared with May 2006 while the overall freight traffic among European airports increased +2.6% year on year in May 2007. The overall figure for movements at European airports increased +3.3% in May 2007 when compared with May 2006. Passenger figures for May 2007 once again indicate that Group 4 airports (airports welcoming less than 5 million passengers per year) had the largest increase in traffic - with an average increase of +7.2% when compared with May 2006 - and an average increase of +18.1% when compared with May 2005.

12/07/07: NAV CANADA reduces service charges by 4% on August 1

(Ottawa, July, 12, 2007) – NAV CANADA today announced that it would be proceeding with reductions in its customer service charges totalling 4 per cent effective August 1, 2007. This will include a 3 per cent reduction already announced, that will come into effect August 1, 2007, one month ahead of the original proposed date of September 1, 2007. In addition, the Company has decided to add a temporary 1 per cent reduction for the period August 1, 2007 to August 31, 2008.

11/07/07: Boeing Delivers Second C-40C to U.S. Air Force Reserve Command

ST. LOUIS, July 11, 2007 — The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] has delivered the second of three C-40C transport aircraft to the U.S. Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), providing a critical airlift asset to government leaders on official business. Gen. Duncan McNabb, chief of the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command (AMC), accepted the aircraft July 5 at Boeing facilities in Seattle and flew it to Scott Air Force Base (AFB), Ill., where it will begin service with the AFRC. The 932nd and 375th Airlift Wings, units of the AFRC and AMC respectively, will use the Next-Generation 737-700 Boeing Business Jet derivative to provide congressional delegations and senior government personnel safe, secure and reliable transportation — often to remote locations around the world — while supporting their need to conduct in-flight business.

11/07/07: Embraer sells Lineage 1000 Executive Jet to Grupo Omnilife de Mexico: Customer is the first to operate Embraer’s ultra-large aircraft in Mexico

São José dos Campos, July 11, 2007 – Embraer signed Grupo Omnilife de México for a Lineage 1000 jet. The new aircraft will be operated by their aerial taxi services subsidiary, Omniflys. With this order, Grupo Omnilife becomes the first customer of Embraer’s ultra-large executive jet in Mexico. The company is scheduled to take delivery of the aircraft in December 2009.

11/07/07: Lufthansa to move Moscow flights to Domodedovo Airport Transfer from Sheremetyevo Airport scheduled for start of 2008 summer timetable – Star Alliance partner airlines will then operate under one roof

11.07.2007 - Lufthansa is planning to shift its passenger and cargo operations in Moscow from Sheremetyevo Airport to Domodedovo. A Memorandum of Understanding to that effect has been signed by Domodedovo Airport and Lufthansa. At the start of the 2008 summer timetable, all Lufthansa’s Moscow flights will be operated from this modern commercial airport. Following the move, the Star Alliance member airlines currently represented in Moscow (Swiss, Austrian Airlines, bmi, Singapore Airlines, Spanair and Thai Airways) will all be located at the same airport.

Approximately 800 CF and civilian Department of National Defence personnel will be wearing red for a “We Support Our Troops” photo in front of the 1 Canadian Air Division/Canadian NORAD Region HQ on 13 July 2007 at approximately 1045 am. Canadian Forces personnel from 1 Canadian Air Division/Canadian NORAD Region, along with personnel from 17 Wing will show their support for all Canadian Forces troops who are deployed and at home by wearing red. The photo will be displayed in the Air Division building and sent to our troops who are deployed in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa. This photo will let all Military personnel know we are thinking of them and appreciate the contributions they are making at home and abroad.

11/07/07: Finnair introduces new exercise technique on long-haul flights

Finnair is launching a new mode of in-flight exercise based on the Asahi technique on board its long-haul flights. Passengers will be given the opportunity to stretch their limbs starting September on board intercontinental flights to Asian and New York. The Asahi technique, pioneered in Finland, combines Finnish and Asian health know-how. Asahi can be roughly translated as “sunrise”. “The Asahi technique is a wonderful addition to our Asian flights. It will make our passengers feel more alert even after longer flights. The technique is an excellent way to improve one’s physical wellbeing and it can be practiced anywhere,” explains Business Controller Tero Lohimäki from Finnair.

11/07/07: RAF NEWS: Typhoon Goes Operational

Eurofighter Typhoon, the RAF’s newest and most capable fast jet aircraft, are now on readiness to respond to any aircraft acting suspiciously or intruding illegally into UK airspace. Typhoon F2s took on their first operational duties on 29 June 2007, when they assumed responsibility for the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) element of UK air defence in the southern part of the country at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire. Over the next nine months they will progressively replace Tornado F3s which have performed this duty for many years.

11/07/07: No More Excuses- Report Delivers Roadmap for Single European Sky

Geneva—The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed the report of the High Level Group (HLG) for the Future European Aviation Regulatory Framework. The report outlines ten recommendations for the further development of a safe, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly European Air Traffic Management (ATM) system. At the core of the report’s recommendations is realising an effective Single European Sky (SES). “The moment of truth has arrived. Today’s report clearly points to achieving the SES as a top priority and it sets out ten practical recommendations to achieve it urgently. There can be no more excuses. It’s time to start moving,” said Giovanni Bisignani, IATA’s Director General and CEO.

11/07/07: The CEOs of the Members of the EUROPEAN GEOSTATIONNARY NAVIGATION OVERLAY SERVICE (EGNOS) OPERATORS and INFRASTRUCTURE GROUP (EOIG) and of the ESSP met on July 9th 2007 in Paris to review the progress of EGNOS programme implementation and project organisation.

EGNOS is the European satellite based augmentation to GPS, planned to be certified in 2009 for aviation under the Single European Sky regulations. It has particular benefits for air navigation approaches with vertical guidance on almost all European airports and for precision RNAV. EGNOS is designed as a multimodal system aiming to provide benefits to different categories of aeronautical and non-aeronautical users all over Europe. Around 700 million Euros have been invested in the EGNOS development and Initial Operations under the technical supervision of the European Space Agency (ESA).

10/07/07: FlightSafety International selects Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 10, 2007) - FlightSafety International will install Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics in a Dassault Falcon 50 Full Motion Simulator. The simulator is scheduled to be operational by December 2007. “Current and future Falcon 50 Pro Line 21 customers will have access to a full motion simulator that is more representative of their aircraft,” said Denny Helgeson, vice president and general manager of Rockwell Collins Business and Regional Systems. “This announcement coincides with the 25th Falcon 50 to be retrofitted with Pro Line 21. Dassault Falcon 50 operators continue to install Pro Line 21 because it brings value to the aircraft while improving situational awareness.”

July 10 (Bloomberg) — A group of Limak AS, GMR Infrastructure Ltd. and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd. won a 1.93 billion-euro ($2.6 billion) contract to operate Sabiha Gokcen Airport, the smaller of Istanbul’s two airfields. The group beat bidders including TAV Havalimanlari Holding AS, the operator of Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport, in the auction, which lasted more than 14 hours and ended this morning. Limak is a Turkish company with interests ranging from construction to winemaking. GMR runs New Delhi’s airport. Malaysia Airports controls 39 airports in Malaysia. “The price is much higher than expected,'’ said Onder Zorba, an analyst at Ata Invest. “It would be not possible for Sabiha to have high margins like TAV’s Istanbul Ataturk airport, as Sabiha’s traffic is mainly domestic.'’

South Australian regional airline Regional Express (Rex) has paid tribute to the late Pro Hart with the naming of its Rex Lounge at Adelaide Airport in his honour. The Rex “Pro Hart” Lounge will be officially opened by Senator the Hon. Nick Minchin on Friday morning (13 July) in a special ceremony. “Pro Hart was a great supporter of regional Australia and the way of life in the bush and it is fitting, as the regional airline providing access to regional centres right across south eastern Australia, that we commemorate his life’s work in this manner,” Mr John Sharp, Rex’s Deputy Chairman said.
