28/02/07: Brand-New Third Curbside Open at OAK: Improved access and reduced congestion

A brand-new third curbside at Oakland International Airport (OAK) opened to customers and ground transportation providers today, improving access and easing traffic congestion in front of both terminals. Ground transportation operators relocated to the third curbside from the second curbside, which closed immediately for reconstruction. An exception is a small portion of the second curbside that will remain open for Valet parking drop-off and pick-up.

28/02/07: Rosetta School Greet Barnaby Bear As He Touches Down At London City Airport

On Wednesday 28 February 2007 at 10:00 Barnaby Bear touched down at London City Airport. Ready to welcome him back to London were all his friends from Year 2 at Rosetta School, who he helps to learn all about travel and explore the many different parts of the world. The travels and holidays of Barnaby Bear form the content of Unit Five of the Geography National Curriculum for Primary Years One and Two. The unit focuses on countries around the world and their cultures, as well as looking at the different modes of transport people use to travel.

28/02/07: first ever direct flights between UK and Lille - bmi regional to start services from Leeds Bradford

bmi regional, officially the UK’s most punctual and reliable airline, today announces another new international air route from Leeds Bradford and a first for the UK. Starting 23 April, direct flights will link Leeds Bradford with Lille in northern France six days a week with convenient flight schedules for both business and leisure purpose travellers. Flights are also timed to offer excellent connections at Leeds Bradford to and from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

28/02/07: SR Technics and dba sign component services agreement

Zurich, 28 February, 2007 - SR Technics has concluded a new Integrated Component Solutions (ICS) agreement with the German carrier dba for component services on its Boeing 737 Classic fleet. The work, due to commence in mid October 2007 following the expiration of the current components contract, will cover 10 Boeing 737 Classic aircraft until they are phased out of dba’s fleet. Under this new agreement SR Technics will continue to place a consignment stock at Munich airport for the exclusive use of dba. In addition the airline will also have access to SR Technics’ extensive component pool at its London Heathrow Logistics Centre. The original component services contract with dba began in October 1997 and has seen dba being successfully supported by SR Technics over the past decade. The new agreement is also in addition to a three year Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) agreement signed last year between the two companies for support of the Honeywell APUs installed on dba’s fleet of Boeing aircraft.

28/02/07: Data Link Solutions to deliver Link 16 terminals for Finnish Air Force

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (February 28, 2007) - The Finnish Air Force has selected Data Link Solutions (DLS) to supply Link 16 Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminals (LVT) for its fleet of F-18 aircraft. The award was a directed-source Foreign Military Sales procurement through the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) MIDS International Program Office. The MIDS-LVT provides a secure, high-capacity, jam-resistant digital data and voice communications capability.

February 28, 2007 — EVENDALE, Ohio — CFM International has announced that it will open its fourth aircraft engine maintenance training school in New Delhi, India in 2010. 28/02/07: Qantas Selects GEnx Engine for Its Boeing 787 Fleet

February 28, 2007 — EVENDALE, Ohio — The Qantas Group has selected the GEnx engine as the powerplant for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet of up to 115 aircraft. The initial order is for 90 installed engines. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2008. “This selection of the GEnx engine to power Qantas’ 787 fleet is exciting news for our business,” said Scott Donnelly, president and CEO of GE Aviation. “We look forward to working with the airline to ensure the entry into service of the GEnx-powered 787 aircraft is flawless.”

28/02/07: Budapest Airport submits proposals to improve noise protection at Ferihegy: BA honours commitment to make formal proposals within 12 months

28 February, 2007. – Budapest Airport today officially submitted 17 detailed proposals for improving Ferihegy’s Noise Protection Programme to the Ministry and Economy and Transport and the Civil Aviation Directorate, honouring a pledge to do so within 12 months. If approved, the proposals will make a significant improvement to the lives of communities currently impacted by aircraft noise. The proposals include changes to airspace, flight procedures, night flights and airport operations and introduce new noise mitigation measures. Some of the proposals require changes to Government decrees, most require approval from the CAD, and some can be implemented under Budapest Airport’s own authority.

28/02/07: Bell Helicopter Customer Service Facilities to Raise the BARS

ORLANDO, Fla. (February 28, 2007) - Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, at Heli-Expo 2007 announced changes to the more than 150 Customer Service Facility (CSF) service centers in 22 countries around the world. These facilities include Aircraft and Component Maintenance Facilities and Blade and Structural Repair Facilities responsible for Bell Helicopter’s worldwide authorized helicopter maintenance services. The changes being implemented throughout 2007 are designed to improve the consistency of service from CSF to CSF, and to make the CSF Network stronger by improving the business environment for service centers.

28/02/07: Enstrom Helicopter selects Chelton Flight Systems EFIS

February 28, 2007 - Enstrom Helicopter and Chelton Flight Systems, Inc. Chelton Flight Systems, part of the Cobham Avionics & Surveillance Division, has been chosen to supply the Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) for Enstrom Helicopter Corporations’ Model 480B program. Enstrom Helicopter will certify the Chelton EFIS as a part of the factory type certificate (TC) for the 480B turbine line of helicopters. This factory-installed configuration is expected to be available in late 3Q 2007. The installation will include 2 Chelton EFIS displays, the newest release 6.0B software, Chelton’s new compact digital air data and attitude/heading reference system, (ADAHRS), along with Chelton’s latest technology Beta 3 GPS/WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) receiver. The system also features a synthetic vision primary flight display, dual integrated FMS, Class-B (or –A capable) helicopter TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System), a master caution voice warning system, HITS (Highway-In-The-Sky navigation), a digital flight recorder, and Chelton’s unique hover vector display. The system is NVG (Night Vision Goggle) friendly.

A frequently asked question from those who have visited the museum lately is about our missing aircraft. We can assure you they are still with us, but when you see them again they will be in a new location on base - Heritage Hill. The new airpark, located southeast of the Museums C-141 & C-124 which their selves were moved to the newly named Heritage Hill in 2005, will be a centerpiece of the bases “Rainier Ranch” area constructed for visitors during the this summers International Air Mobility Rodeo, an competition held at McChord every two years off and on since the mid 90’s.

28/02/07: Aerial Gunners at The Air Museum Planes of Fame - March 3, 2007 - Chino, California

Chino, CA – Among the special guests who will be on hand at The Air Museum “Planes of Fame” for the museum’s March 3, 2007 monthly special event will be family members and associates of Jimmy Doolittle. A pioneering test and air racing pilot in the years before World War II, Jimmy Doolittle gained even more fame as the leader of the first American air strike against the Japanese homeland. Awarded the Medal of Honor and promoted to the rank of general, Doolittle later commanded the 8th Air Force strategic bombing campaign against Germany. The March 3 special event at The Air Museum “Planes of Fame” will highlight the role of aerial gunners in World War II and feature a flight demonstration by the “Planes of Fame” North American B-25 Mitchell bomber, the type of bomber used by Doolittle for the raid against Japan.

Dubai, UAE: Dubai is well on course to become the home of the world’s largest international airport industry exhibition, as the emirate forges ahead with aviation infrastructure projects worth more than US$ 80 billion. Organisers Streamline Marketing Group announced today that exhibition space sold for the Airport Show, the region’s only dedicated trade show for airport construction, operations, technologies and services, is already up 40 per cent compared with last year. 28/02/07: Hail Damage Forces Shuttle Atlantis Off Launch Pad

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA decided Tuesday to roll the Space Shuttle Atlantis off its launch pad and back inside the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center. Managers made the decision after a hail storm Monday damaged the orbiter’s external tank. A new target launch date has not been determined, but teams will focus on preparing Atlantis for liftoff in late April.

28/02/07: POWER8 prepares way for New Airbus

Following the unanimous approval by the EADS Board of Directors on Monday, Airbus today presented the details of its Power8 restructuring plan to the Airbus European Works Council and announced the creation of a new industrial and operating structure for the Company. Power8 will enable Airbus to face the very substantial challenge of the US dollar weakness, increased competitive pressure, the financial burden related to the A380 delays as well as meet its other future investment needs. Power8 provides for strong cost-cutting measures, aims at transforming the Airbus business model and the development of a global network of partners. It will allow Airbus to devote its resources to core activities and eliminate inefficiencies within its current structure. The programme aims at the full industrial integration of Airbus by establishing a new industrial organization with transnational Centres of Excellence replacing the existing national structures. 28/02/07: Yorkshire Air Museum Announces RAF Support for Events

The Yorkshire Air Museum is delighted to have secured a great deal of support from the Royal Air Force for our forthcoming events season, with historic aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight being allocated to all our shows. This will start off in spectacular style on Saturday 12th May with a flypast by the ‘legendary three’ – Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire – for the opening day of the two-day Battlegroup North show, with the Dakota following this up on the Sunday. The show will feature the largest gathering of historic military vehicles to be seen in Yorkshire this year, along with some of the best miniature wargames in the country. The detail in some of these precision model battle scenarios has to be seen to be believed, and, with a number of ‘hands on’ participation games available, there will be something for enthusiasts and novices to enjoy. Great fun for kids and the ‘young at heart’!

27/02/07: Manchester Airport: Airport team gets in shape for Corporate Games

A team from Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth Airports is getting in training for this year’s Corporate Games. The three-day event, which is this year being held in Sheffield, sees more than 140 companies from across the UK compete in events ranging from cricket to dragon boating. More than 150 competitors from the Manchester Airports Group are already in practice for the June 29th to July 1st event. They plan to enter teams in the cricket, netball, golf, tennis, soccer 6s, dragon boating and karting events.

27/02/07: First Production Pratt & Whitney-Powered Airbus A318 Completes Inaugural Flight

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 27, 2007 – The first production Airbus A318 aircraft powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW6000 engines completed its first flight from the Airbus facility in Hamburg, Germany. The airplane, which will go into service with LAN Airlines of Chile in May 2007, flew for more than four hours and performed a series of system checks in preparation for delivery. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.
