30/09/06: Next Generation Global Hawk

Northrop Grumman in late-August rolled out the first production version of the new RQ-4 Block 20 Global Hawk unmanned aerial reconnaissance system in a ceremony at the company’s Antelope Valley Manufacturing Center in Palmdale, CA. Company and USAF officials introduced the advanced capability Block 20 air vehicle to an audience of senior government and military representatives, community and civic leaders, industry teammates and employees.

30/09/06: NASA Ends One Chapter in Human Spaceflight, Prepares for the Next

NASA is marking a historic moment in the life of the nation’s largest rocket engine test complex. The Stennis Space Center conducted the final space shuttle main engine test on its A-1 Test Stand Friday. Although this ends the stand’s work on the Space Shuttle Program, it will soon be used for the rocket that will carry America’s next generation human spacecraft, Orion. The A-1 Test Stand was the site of the first test on a shuttle main engine in 1975. Stennis will continue testing shuttle main engines on its A-2 Test Stand through the end of the Space Shuttle Program in 2010.

easyJet, Europe’s leading low-fares airline, today announced it will be launching flights from Belfast International Airport to Krakow on 24 April 2007. It was a beautiful day to go whale watching. A nice breeze was keeping the 30 odd passengers and crew cool while they traded binoculars in hopes of catching catch a glimpse of the elusive mammals. Suddenly, the ship jerked, there was a muffled scream, and then - impact. It only took the passengers a few seconds to realise what had happened. Passengers and crew were quick to point toward the other ship which had already overturned, to suddenly realize that their craft was taking on water and that it wouldn’t be long before they found themselves in the water. Who could rescue them all the way out here in the middle of the ocean? How far away are they and when would they be here?

29/09/06: Air Baltic opts for expanded component support solution from Saab

Air Baltic has chosen to extend the scope of their existing component support agreement covering its fleet of Fokker 50 aircraft to a complete component support solution in a new extended agreement. The contract is valued at approximately 70 MSEK over the term of the agreement. Saab Aerotech together with partner SAS Component have provided component services on ad hoc basis to Air Baltic’s Fokker 50 operation for several years. In and expanded agreement, Air Baltic has now chosen to extend this successful relationship by utilizing an option in the current agreement to expand services. Air Baltic’s new support solution comprises a total component supply program, including parts exchange, MRO and component engineering services for the entire Fokker 50 fleet at the airline.

The regional aircraft manufacturer ATR announced today the sale of four new ATR 72-500s that will be operated by NAYSA, a regional operator based in the Canary Islands.
