31/01/06: Singapore Technologies Marine selected to build
A380 transport vessels

Singapore Technologies Marine (ST Marine), a leading shipbuilder which is part of the Singapore Technologies Engineering Group, has been selected to build two large roll-on and roll-off vessels for the shipment of A380 sections. The two vessels are due for delivery in 2008 and will join the existing A380 Transport vessel “Ville de Bordeaux”, which entered service in 2004. The new vessels are being commissioned by FRET/Cetam, a subsidiary of Louis Dreyfuss Armateurs of France and Leif Hoegh of Norway. The value of the two vessels is €60 million.

The Supreme Court has overturned the verdict from Eidsiva Court of Appeals which aquitted SAS Ground Services in the legal clarification concerning employees rights. “This is a ruling that gives rise to mixed emotions. It’s a good day for the part-time employees that are given more work, and at the same time a sad day for those full-time employees who will have to make do with part-time jobs as a consequence of the ruling,” stated Ola H. 31/01/06: Important step forward for EU-US ‘open skies’ deal, but hurdles remain

The EU Transport Council meeting in December 2005, responded cautiously to the draft agreement reached by European Commission and US negotiators in November 2005 on a phased ‘open skies’ deal aimed at liberalising transatlantic air services. The draft agreement – if approved – would represent an important step towards the normalisation of the air transport industry and a first step towards the creation of a transatlantic open aviation area. However, significant hurdles remain. While there was unanimous Council agreement that ’substantial progress’ had been achieved in the latest round of talks in Washington, transport ministers expressed concern about a lack of clarity in relation to the US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) – published in November 2005 – relating to foreign control of US airlines.
