Of Online Ticket Sales

SEATTLE — Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air this week marked the 10th anniversary of their original Web site, alaskaair.com, the first domestic airline site to sell tickets over the Internet. The airlines introduced the site on Dec. 28, 1995, and sold the first online ticket the same day to a family of four from the Olympic Peninsula region of Washington state.

30/12/05: 75 years of air traffic control in Switzerland

Geneva, 30 December 2005. 75 years ago the Swiss Confederation transferred the entire responsibility for Swiss air traffic control to Radio Schweiz AG. With its new Air Navigation Service Centre Zurich, skyguide is now returning to Dübendorf airport where the history of air traffic control in Switzerland began in 1931.

30/12/05: Lufthansa to create 2,400 new jobs in Germany

Good news for Germany as a business location: Lufthansa will recruit a total of 2,400 new employees next year. Most of the growth will occur in operational areas, with the company requiring 1,420 flight attendants and 220 ground staff to provide passenger handling services at its Frankfurt and Munich hubs. In the new year, 180 pilot students and 330 trainees will begin their professional training at Lufthansa. In addition, the Lufthansa Group will offer 250 university graduates and experienced academics in the fields of engineering, IT and commerce an opportunity to join the company. Once again, Lufthansa has shown that even in economically difficult times it is a reliable and attractive employer. In fact, graduates rate Lufthansa among the top ten employers in Germany.

The official bodies of the Civil Aviation Administration will be separated off into a separate authority from January 1st 2006. The new authority will be called the Civil Aviation Authority. The existing CAA Finland will carry on its functions as service provider under the new name Finavia.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore.—Thurs., Dec. 29, 2005 Oregon artist, Ron Hart, is currently exhibiting his aviation art at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Ore. The display focuses on aviation history and the visual elements that surround flight from his first hand experience as a pilot. Currently on display are 33 of Hart’s pieces. The exhibit will be available for viewing until Jan. 31, 2006. Evergreen Aviation Museum patrons can view the art exhibit as part of the normal admission prices.

At Esrange, the Aerospace Operation Facility of the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), preparations are carried out for a Texus sounding rocket launch planned for 30 November.
